Emily Barney
Emily’s Story:
Emily believes all the experiences and learning she has done throughout her life has led her to birth work. She understands the depth of the fact that childbirth, along with death, are the universally shared human experiences — the portals to our physical reality. She is passionate about and honored to exist in these spaces as a Birth Doula, consultant, educator, and birth justice advocate. Emily is a Co-Founder of The DOULA CO-OP & Executive Director. She also sits on the Doula Advisory Committee to the Nevada Certification Board collaborating with birth workers across the state on implementing Doulas into the state's Medicaid coverage.
Currently living in Reno, she serves her communities by holding safe, non-judgemental space for humans to human in all the joy and mess life brings. She is the Founder of Doula Purposes, where in her practice, she guides birthing people and families to empower themselves through knowledge, self-trust & community as they transition into parenthood. She encourages them to harness their innate power by strengthening their relationship with the four essential elements of the Self - mind, body, heart & spirit. She is thrilled to be expanding her practice in 2023 to include offerings for Death/End-of-Life Doula support for all humans big & small experiencing death and dying. Her unique perspective as a companion through birth & death transitions remind her that every day is a precious opportunity to LIVE.
She spends her free time being laid upon by her two fellow Pisces kitties, learning a new craft, traveling to visit friends, family, & destinations near and far, watering her plants, listening to podcasts & daydreaming.
