Community-Based Maternal Health Research
The Study:
TITLE: Cultural Congruent Doula Care; The Missing Lens into Maternal Mental Health
OUR STUDY AIMED TO EXPLORE…
How receiving support and education from a culturally congruent doula might impact maternal PMADs outcomes in the postpartum period & how it could impact maternal satisfaction in childbirth for our birthing participants.
The experiences of doula participants enrolling with Medicaid and providing services.
Study Updates as of August 2024:
We submitted our pilot findings in our Final Report on June 20th 2024 to be reviewed by judges in the NIH Connecting the Community for Maternal Health Challenge.
DCNV’s driving goal for this study was to contribute to the growing body of knowledge on maternal health from a community-based perspective. We aimed to specifically address the disparities in maternal mental health outcomes for Medicaid-insured women in Nevada & understand Doulas' experiences in providing services for the Nevada Medicaid birthing population.
We would like to extend the warmest gratitude to the members of our research team for their incredible dedication to this project for the past 2 years, as well as the mentors and teams at the NIH and FedTech, in particular Dr. Jennifer Wisdom. A huge congratulations to all of the other teams who participated in this challenge alongside us. We did it!
