What is a doula?
A non-medical professional & member of a birth team trained to provide emotional, physical, informational, and community resource support throughout pregnancy, labor/birth & postpartum.
Can I still join the study if I don’t want a doula?
Yes! If you don’t wish to have a doula present at your birth, you can join our control group & still receive the full amount of gift card compensation.
Can the doula attend my birth & not provide visits?
No. If you have indicated you want a doula at your birth, they must also provide visits before and after you give birth.
Will I be compensated if I enroll in the study?
Yes! If you participate in the study either, with or without, the support of a doula, then you can receive up to $175 in gift cards.
Can I still join the study if have a scheduled cesarean or an induction?
Yes! Doulas support all types of birth - regardless of participation in this study.
Do I have to be a Medicaid recipient in Nevada?
Yes. This study is seeking to gather data from individuals receiving Medicaid insurance across the state of Nevada.
