Molly Rodriguez
Molly’s Story:
She originally came to birth work through her own children. She has 3, two boys and a girl, and she has fallen in love with each of their stages as they’ve grown. That is not to say it has always been sunshine and roses. But because her family is not located nearby, she has had to create a supportive motherhood community. Many of her friends are mothers now too, and together they have always used each other as support and encouragement. Through the years, the comments came more and more frequently, “You should be a doula.” “Have you ever considered doula work?” “You would be a great doula.” Over time, and many conversations with her husband, she finally decided to go for it.
She never actually knew that postpartum doulas existed until a friend mentioned it. That was the last straw that really got her. She wanted to be part of the first weeks, that is her jam. So she started on this path. She needed extra support during her first weeks, especially with all of her children. But without it, it was difficult to create the space that was needed to bond with her baby, take time for herself to rest, heal, and to help facilitate easy bonding between the new baby and siblings.
This work means that she will be able to help create that space for other mothers to have time to heal and space to create a slow and relaxing beginning to their new baby’s life. She believes this goes hand in hand with the other work she does within the scope of ayurveda, a lifestyle science based around digestion and the mind/body connection, and also meditation. She has taught parent/child classes to help parent’s learn to meditate around the chaos that is having children in the home, and also teach children the tools of meditation which can aid in any area of life as they learn and grow.
She also has experience with cloth diapering, including teaching others how to use and clean cloth diapers, and make cloth wipes, as well as elimination communication (EC), and she would love to pass on those skills to mothers that are interested. It has been so rewarding to add doula work to her current offerings, and she is so excited to continue to serve the mothers of her community.
